Adventurous tipples to celebrate World Gin Day 2023

Here is a selection of gins from around the world, as well dome more unusual ones closer to home

Gin has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1550 before becoming a common tipple in the 1700s and now a firm bar staple in the 21st Century. Not only will you find gins from a variety of British distilleries in the bars of today but there are plenty of interesting variants and blends coming from across the world too.

Here is a selection of gins from around the world, as well dome more unusual ones closer to home, that might take your fancy if you’re a straight gin and tonic with a slice of lime or prefer your gin with something sweeter or even a spicy twist...

Hendrick's Flora Adora Gin, 70cl: £34.79

Hendrick's Gin is most renowned for infusing its Gin with Rose and cucumber which took a decade to perfect and has been a ‘go to’ gin for many gin drinkers. The new Flora Adora gin from Hendrick's offers an ‘adventurous’ blend from Scottish award-winning distillers William Grant & Sons.

Jaffa Cake Gin: £20 (on offer)

Bringing together two timeless classics, Jaffa Cake Gin is distilled with oranges, fresh orange peel, cocoa powder and real-life Jaffa cakes. The result is just as you’d expect - full-on Jaffa cake tastiness built around a distinctive base of crisp juniper - perfect for gin lovers with a sweet tooth. It makes a delicious Negroni and as an added bonus you can garnish with an actual Jaffa cake!

Bathtub Gin Persian Lime & Orange Blossom: £32.95

A zealously zesty, vibrantly floral offering from Bathtub Gin. This edition sees the delicious cold-compounded spirit infused with the elegant flavours of Persian lime and orange blossom. This dry and unsweetened expression is awesomely aromatic, with an abundance of zesty lime peel and citrus oil bolstering the bold juniper and gentle spices at its core. Works a treat in a G&T, and shines mixed with bitter lemon.

Aber Falls Welsh Dry Gin, 70cl: £31.49

A 'Welsh Dry Gin' made using Welsh water from the mountains around Aber Falls. Created by the Aber Falls Distillery in 2017 in North Wales’ Abergwyngregyn, sitting at the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park and a village steeped in heritage and natural beauty.

Blending traditional botanicals including juniper through a copper distillery includes a layered citrus edge giving a slightly spicy and sweet edge for a twist on the classic gin taste.

G’Vine Noumaison Gin, 70cl: £42.99

The French take on gin from G’Vine sees a blend of traditions from the Charente region with south-west and Parisienne style. G’Vine relaunched their Noumaison gin with a new bottle but the same distinctive flavour using 10 botanicals to create herbal and rich juniper notes, this gin also uses a distillate of Ugni Blanc grapes similar to those used Cognac to give it a heady body and distinctive taste. Mix with tonic and delicate slices of ginger for the perfect gin and tonic with a French twist.

AGeINg from That Boutique-y Gin Company: £39.95

That Boutique-y Gin Company's aGeINg is something that ought to be very intriguing to the inquisitive gin nerd. The gin within the bottle is a recipe full of classic gin botanicals (juniper, coriander, orange, cassia, etc.), but the little wooden stick you see alongside the bottle is where things get interesting. With aGeINg, you pop that (purposefully) charred stick into the bottle of gin and let it impart its oak-y deliciousness. Once it has achieved a flavour profile to your liking, simply remove the stick to arrest the process.

Nordés Atlantic Galician Gin, 70cl: £32.49

Nordés breaks all established gin rules by standing out as the first Atlantic Galician Gin, so of course it's a must-try for any gin fan! Combining the freshness of the Atlantic Ocean alongside the Spanish local Albariño grape and 11 botanicals ingredients including juniper, sage, samphire, tea, ginger and hibiscus gives this unusual gin a uniquely fresh and aromatic character.

To serve, drink this gin neat with a sprig of basil and fresh ice for a fresh gin taste.

Kopparberg Passionfruit and Orange Gin, 70cl: 19.49

A captivating and refreshing citrus take on gin from Kopparberg with this Kopparberg Passionfruit & Orange gin. IInfused with botanicals of juniper, lemon zest and coriander, the gin combines the tastes of passionfruit and orange to create a refreshingly light and citrusy serve that's perfect for summer – as well as raising a glass this World Gin Day!

Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin, 70cl: 34.99

One of the most interesting and innovative takes on gin, the Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin is the only gin in the world created specifically to go in a Negroni cocktail.

It's highly aromatic, rich and has an added spice that makes this gin a gin quite like no other. For any gin drinker keen to mix things up, use this Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin to make the perfect Negroni with Campari, sweet vermouth, ice and a slice of orange peel.

Meyers Gin Jade, 50cl: 29.49

Meyer's Gin jade is a true recipe of classic craftmanship with a fresh and crisp taste giving a lime zest flavour to its gin. Mixing juniper berry, coriander, angelica root and lemon thyme with lime juice, zest and the fruit itself, gives this gin an extra fruity body and texture.

Uniquely this gin also blends white asparagus, with Meyer's including no less than 30kg for 100 litres of gin. It might be a strange idea, but this Belgian gin has a complex flavour that needs to be tasted to be believed.

Ginato Pinot Grigio Italian Gin, 70cl: 24.99

Combining the Italian classic of pinot grigio with gin makes the Ginato a unique spirit designed to capture the essence of Italy.
